Education in Europe
The main aim of the EDUEU module was to introduce the discourse on European dimensions of education into the teaching and research activities at the School of Education at Tel Aviv University in particular and within the education system in Israel in general. To achieve this goal, the JM module team developed a set of activities that ran through the course of the module including two classes (for MA students) one with embedded research work and one mainly based on in-class hands-on activities. Both classes were developed with a vision of open access and online participation. The students' assessment of the classes was excellent (in the top 10%). Several workshops were developed and delivered, with various foci in relation to European citizenship, globalization, global citizenship, Sustainable Development Goals, and comparative education. A website and monthly newsletters were delivered, using university's email lists but also Facebook and other online tools (example for a newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/cafc4a9574fd/april-331179?fbclid=IwAR1Jvp6uDt2-jRmL82oz3R7u-FNVML4Og6VEhl1iQUji7_G0dTINuLidTdEOn top of local activities, a national conference titled "Education in a post-truth era" was held during December 2018, where scholars and students from Israel engaged on topics related to EU role in a contemporary era. Two international guests attended the conference: Prof. Tristan McCowan from the University College London and Prof. David Post from the Pennsylvania State University (Prof. Post is also a President of the Comparative and International Education Society). I am planning to submit a proposal for establishing a Jean Monnet Chair at TAU, based on the support this module gained. The activities were amplified through the UNESCO chair for Technology and Internationalisation in Education, co-chaired by Dr. Miri Yemini (the module holder). Through both, these measures various internal and external stakeholders were approached and their support for future activities guaranteed. For example, the module received financial support from the Unit for innovative pedagogy (TAU online) to develop design thinking based activities with students. Special attention was devoted to learners with special needs and the facilities and materials were available for various types of students. In terms of research, a conceptual review of the literature was performed (to be published at the end of 2019 in the flagship journal of educational research - Research Review in Education). To conclude, the module achieved all its goals and many of the module's activities will be sustained and further developed in the following years.
