ENUNCIATE - Jean Monnet Module on Ethnic Conflicts and the EU

The ENUNCIATE Jean Monnet Module explores ethnic conflicts in the context of European integration and governance. It aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the historical, cultural, political and socio-economic factors that shape these conflicts and their implications for peace, stability and human rights.

Focusing on Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Cyprus, the module examines the roles of nationalism, identity and power struggles in the emergence and continuation of ethnic divisions. It also considers the impact of international intervention and the challenges associated with post-conflict reconciliation.

Drawing on political science, sociology, history and international relations, the module equips students with a multidisciplinary perspective on conflict analysis, peacebuilding and reconciliation.

A central component of the programme is a study tour to Cyprus. Through this experiential learning activity, students will explore the realities of intercommunal relations, engage with local academics, policymakers, civil society organisations and affected communities, and apply theoretical concepts in a real-world setting.

The project also promotes dialogue beyond the classroom. Workshops, guest lectures and dissemination events will allow students to present their research and engage with policymakers, civil society representatives and the wider public.
