EU counter-terrorism network
The main aim of this proposal is to establish a new Jean Monnet Network on EU Counter-Terrorism, which would be recognised globally as a leader in the field. The proposed network would be based at the University of South Wales (USW), but would have a strong international dimension by drawing upon long-established and emergent collaborations with a range of researchers in the UK, Europe and Israel and North Africa. The network will include the University of the West of England Bristol and Cardiff University in the UK, Dublin City University in Ireland, the University of Augsburg in Germany, the Egmont Institute in Belgium, the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, the University of Pisa in Italy, CIDOB Barcelona and the University of Deusto Bilboa in Spain, the University of Iasi in Romania, Prague Metropolitan University in the Czech Republic, the IDC Herzliya in Israel and the University of Jendouba in Tunisia. Extending the work of current Jean Monnet Chair Prof. Dr Christian Kaunert on EU counter-terrorism, three Marie Curie Fellowships on European Security, Terrorism and Migration (Deus Pereira, Ilbiz, and Okpanachi) and drawing upon the expertise and experience of existing research centres at USW, in particular the International Centre for Policing and Security (ICPS) and the Centre for Criminology, the proposed JM Network would focus on European cooperation on counter-terrorism, including partnerships with third-countries in these policy areas.
