Internationalisation in higher education is strongly motivated by the need to provide our graduates with the relevant competencies for the global world of the 21st century they live and work in. These competencies, known as “global competencies” are part of a family of concepts including international or intercultural competencies, global citizenship, and employability skills.
The discussion on the competencies we want the future generation to acquire is a crucial step in the planning, implementation and evaluation of our internationalisation activities. But what is global competence? And how can we introduce competence based learning (CBL)
Global competence is “the capacity to examine local, global and intercultural issues, to understand and appreciate the perspectives and world views of others, to engage in open, appropriate and effective interactions with people from different cultures, and to act for collective well-being and sustainable development" [Read more on the PISA 2018 Global Competence ]
