PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND EXERCISING BENEFITS IN DEMENTIA CARE

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND EXERCISING BENEFITS IN DEMENTIA CARE

Older adults at risk or suffering from mild cognitive impairment and dementia are at risk or already socially excluded or have problems to participate in positive healthy activities. The same often holds for family caregivers. This is due to embarrassment and to real physical and mental barriers.

The ACTIMENTIA project offers an online eLearning platform with dances, exercises and physical activity games. These can be utilised in several ways., e.g. directly, because exercise, dance and othe activities can be done together, as couple, in a group, in the public. It yields fun and a positive and healthy attitude. Secondly, the effects of training support the patient and also the caregiver, maintaining or improving independence.

Based on thorough analyses and inclusion of the user groups and other stakeholders, the platform contains 36 exercise, dance and game videos of different technology and look, offering 5,5 hours of physical activity in different type, load and difficulty, combined with music and audio explanations in 7 different languages (Bulgarian, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Polish).

For more than 784 participants were included in development, training, piloting, evaluation, revision of the outputs of this Erasmus+ strategical partnership, there is significant evidence that the objectives have been reached. Meanwhile, 3161 video views show that the platform really is in use, in fact in all continents worldwide.
