The East-Med Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence

EXCELEM formalizes links between two JM Chairs in two universities in the Eastern Mediterranean (EM) region (Israel, Greece), to provide a new opportunity for EU scholars to engage with each other in a more organized, coherent and sustainable way. The main objectives are to:- Consolidate expertise and utilise this effectively throughout the region by developing synergies between high-level experts’ and interdisciplinary cooperation among two different JM Chairs (accomplished through staff mobility, joint graduate supervision, podcasts of seminars, strategic shared use of visiting experts, academic publications, the establishment of an East-Med Youth Forum, an online OER, and creating online networking tools). Students and staff will have enhanced access to top EU academics and more opportunities to interact. - Establish a focal point through the creation of structural linkages and cooperative projects, which will promote the academic excellence and the amelioration of professional specialization within this particular field. Emphasis will be given to students and scholars of other disciplines who will be invited and attracted to improve their knowledge, as well as to participate and contribute to activities regarding EU and EM hot issues.- Found a CoE, which will establish relations and promote networking with policy-makers and shapers, civil servants, youth organisations, organised civil society and the general public. - Promote knowledge amongst young researchers to ensure the sustainability of EU Studies, with the wider impact through graduates using this expertise in their careers within the region. - Provide a platform for promoting excellence in EU teaching and research in the context of the EM region. - Support the young EM generation to speak out and actively participate in a constructive dialogue on European engagement and opportunities for further cooperation.
