Report Hate: Building up possibilities for young people to report and strengthening youth work in working against hate speech
Objectives
Hate speech threatens democracy and social cohesion in many countries of the EU and around the world, as numerous national and international studies show. Especially young people have already come into contact with and/or been directly affected by hate speech. With ReportHate, we want to give young people the opportunity to become active. We are developing the first transnational hate speech reporting portal especially for young people ever.
Activities
In Hungary, North Macedonia and Kroatia new reporting possibilities are set up and framed in a transnational reporting portal, promoted by an accompanying social media campaign targeting on young people. Together with partners from Germany, Israel, Slovakia and Spain and with connections to the International Network Against Cyber Hate, to the European Youth Information and Counselling Agency (ERYICA) and with local youth work structures we create a strong network.
Impact
Three new reporting possibilities for hate speech are created. One transnational hate speech reporting portal with focus on young people is developed and promoted in a broad-based social media campaign. Local stakeholder networks are established. In the second year of the project, reports of hate speech from the partner countries with reporting possibilities are received and documented. The reports received will be published in a final analysis comparing the countries.
